What is Osteopathy?

Osteopathy is a hands-on therapy that improves mobility, relieves pain, and enhances overall well-being. It focuses on the whole body structure—bones, muscles, and joints—to promote natural healing.

Osteopaths are primary healthcare practitioners trained to diagnose, treat, and prevent musculoskeletal issues. Their holistic approach aims to restore balance and support long-term well-being through gentle manipulations, stretching, and massage and life style advice.

Osteopaths treat conditions like:
✔ Back pain & joint stiffness
✔ Headaches & posture issues
✔ Sports injuries & stress relief

while considering the body's overall health and function.

What can osteopaths treat?

Common musculo-skeletal problems that osteopaths are sought for are:

-  Neck/back pain

-  Arthritis/joint pain

-  Posture related pain

-  Sciatica

-  Sports injuries

-  Tennis elbow/plantar fasciitis

-  Pregnancy related pelvic pain

-  Disc injuries

Consultation

At your initial visit we will take a case history to find out about your complaint, previous medical history and general health. We then carry out an examination using standard medical test along with skilled palpation in our own area of expertise to identify the dysfunction.

Treatment

What to expect

An osteopathic appointment is longer than most manual practitioners’ visits. We spend up to 1 hour with clients for an initial consult diagnosing and treating their complaints, and 30 minutes thereafter for follow up consultations. We take a holistic approach to treatment, which means your practitioner may look at other parts of your body, as well as the area that is troubling you. For example, if you have a sore knee, your osteopath may also look at your ankle, pelvis and back.

An osteopath’s reputation is built on discharging clients. Our long appointments and treatment techniques allow us to pin point the causative issues surrounding the dysfunction and resolve them as soon as possible. Clients are quick to recognise the effectiveness of treatment resulting in fewer visits and little need for ‘maintenance’ treatment.
